A great big mess of random

21 Sep

Well, I am proud to say that recruitment is going very well so far! We had the best return rate on the second day (yesterday) we’ve had in years, and everything ran fairly smoothly. Oh, except I got a concussion.

I’m surprised my clumsy self went 20 years without one. And I could have gone even longer if I had just waited a few more inches to lift my head. But, no, I just had to bang my head on the bottom of my loft bed. Hard. People all the way down the hall heard it. At first I was doing okay. I went out in the hall and jokingly said to some friends, “I think I just got a concussion.” Then, about 15 minutes passed and I started to feel nauseous and sleepy. I knew those were possible symptoms of a concussion, so I started freaking out a bit and called my dad. We are both worrywarts, so he immediately told me to get someone to take me to the ER. Luckily, my sorority sister M volunteered to drive me. I have to say, it was the most fun I’ve ever had at the ER. She kept the conversation going so I wouldn’t fall asleep in the waiting room. The wait was surprisingly short, but at one point I really thought I was going to throw up, fall asleep, or both. I didn’t want any of that to happen, and  M calmed me down and got my mind off of it. The concussion test was actually kind of fun. They had me walk on my heels, which is a feat whether you’re concussed or not. But I was able to do it. They did a cat scan, and at one point they were talking about putting an IV in. I’m really glad they didn’t, because I might  have pulled the “I have to recruit tomorrow” card. Obviously my health is more important, but at the time all I could think of was looking like an intravenous drug addict again from the needle and scaring away potential new members. Anyway, the cat scan didn’t show anything, but they diagnosed me with a mild concussion and told me to wake up every two hours. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep that night, and yesterday I was only able to recruit 5 of the 7 rounds. I slept for about two hours and woke up feeling a lot better, but then I wasn’t able to fall asleep until almost 2 am. Today I woke up and felt fine, but now I’m getting tired again and all I want to do is sleep. I have two chapters to read for sociology, though, and so instead of doing that I decided to blog and stalk the J.Crew website. I have no motivation to do anything productive, which isn’t okay because I’m going to be tested on the reading tomorrow. Uggggggh.

In other news, one of my sorority sisters introduced me to Jer Coons‘ music a few days ago, and I’m in love. I’m listening to the songs she burned for me on repeat. His music reminds me of John Mayer’s and Joshua Radin’s.

I guess I should probably try to muster the motivation to read 60 pages now.
